When it’s Hard to find Joy
Some days it’s hard to be joyful. Whether it’s from waking up to fighting kids, annoyances at work, or maybe because you’re in bed sick. These are great distractions from obtaining God’s joy.
I struggle with depression quite often. There are some days it’s almost impossible for me to do anything without crying. On these days, I have a hard time finding joy emotionally, mentally and physically. That’s okay.
Is it okay to say, “okay, well I guess I’m just not going to be joyful today?”
But it is okay to struggle. It’s okay to not hold everything in and act like everything is rainbows and sunshine all the time. As Christians, we’re called to be honest, and acting like something doesn’t bother us when it causes us pain isn’t very honest, is it?
Remember: Our Joy doesn’t come from our circumstances, it comes from our Father!
Be joyful because you have hope. Be patient when trouble comes, and pray at all times. Romans 12:12 (NCV)
PRAY AT ALL TIMES.
So when we are feeling despair, we need to pray. That should be our first tool we pull from our belt. God is the best listener! We need to strive for joy, even when it’s hard, because we have HOPE. Hope that it will get better. Hope that God uses all things for good. Hope because he is righteous and knows all that is unknown to us. Be patient because He is faithful.
So how do we do this? How do we have joy, when it’s hard?
Hebrews 12:12 says, Let us look only to Jesus, the One who began our faith and who makes it perfect. He suffered death on the cross. But he accepted shame as if it were nothing because of the joy that God put before him. And now he is sitting at the right side of God’s throne. (NCV)
Wow. Let’s pick up our shield of faith and believe that if God would give Jesus such joy that he would accept shame as if it was nothing, that He will do the same for us! When we take a hit in our battles, don’t let it knock you down for the rest of the fight, stand up and fight back!
So, hit your knees and pray. Put on some music and worship Him. Praise God for all he has done, is doing and is going to do!
Choose joy today.
